Q:Why would I spend the money on this newer model Motorola Surfboard Gateway over the SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 model? Reading the specs, it seems similar.
A:There are a number of big differences in the models. The SBG6782-AC supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi specifications as well as 802.11b/g/n. The SBG6782-AC is also a dual-concurrent Wi-Fi access point where the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wireless Radios are both enabled at the same time. Q:Does this 6782 have a stronger wifi signal than the 6580?
A:Cannot answer precisely as I am in a small townhome with no distance from router exceeding about 20'ft.

I noticed the config page of the modem no longer has the reset or reset defaults options & no one from Comcast can tell me why. The CS folks go through their scripted resets which effect no significant or sustained improvement but no one from Comcast has offered that this modem might not be compatible & it still appears on their approved list, I don't get it. Q:Do I need to connect a MoCA adapter to this device? I have a two-pack MoCA adapter kit and don't know if I need one hooked up directly to this unit?
A:A MoCA adapter does not need to be connected directly to this device. This device is capable of creating a MoCA network. You will however need to use the adapter at the end point devices. For example you could use your first adapter at your computer, and your second one at your PlayStation.

Q:Is this a good router? Or should I just buy a SB6141 and keep my current Linksys E4200? Waiting for Comcast to swap my old one 3 weeks... time to buy!
A:It's a great router! If you have a late model Apple product or other high performance equipment that has the 802.11AC WiFi installed, then you want to get this modem/router, it's a noticeable difference from the 802.11N.

Q:May I hear from those who actually have this modem & use it w/regular Comcast internet service? Will it work with up to 25mbps?
A:Depends on what package of Internet you have. I have Comcast and my package of Internet from Comcast is 50 Mbps and whit this modem I'm getting 60 Mbps using the wifi it'll work depends on your internet package ✌

Q:Does this device serve as a MoCA adapter and/or MoCA router? I assume I purchase additional MoCA adapters for other areas of the home...

Q:I have the triple play- internet, phone and tv, can this be used with that if i have the triple play, will this work? what is an alternative?

Q:Does this unit have a firewall like it's predecessor? The specs don't state this.
A:Yes, the SBG6782-AC does have a Firewall built in to it. It allows settings of "Low, Medium, High, and Off" to suit your needs.

Q:By plugging my Comcast cable into the back of Surfboard does that also send the internet signal back out over the same cable, there is no in or out?
A:The cable from Comcast goes in, and then the output is Ethernet network. So one cable output in your home becomes Internet, not all of them. the modem/router (this serves as both) has wifi for your other devices.

Q:I have this unit and it says it is capable of 343 mbps --- my time warner plan says 100 mbps. i only get around 3 mbps on each of two computers.????
A:There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to connectivity. Find a competent network technician to troubleshoot it for you.

A:Should be compatible with all ISPs. I use mine with Time Warner Cable in Los Angeles and it works like a charm!

Q:The description says it's a cable modem/wifi router and yet I see people saying they are connecting it to a router. Do you have to buy a router too?
A:This particular model is a cable modem plus AC 1750 router. So for this model, you do not need a router. With some other models, you can/will need to connect your own router. The cable modem only models are somewhat less expensive.

Q:I have time warner cable speed of 200 mb. with this router, will i be able to get 200 mbps on wifi?
A:I've also noticed it has a short distance. I have 200mb cable speed too and I haven't got anywhere near that speed on wifi yet.

You won't need the Motorola SurfBoard unit.If you wish to read on... I was out-of-town on assignment at the time, sorry about any delays. Pursuant to your request pertaining to: "Airport time capsule (apple ac router) with 2TB wireless storage."I'll assume you have the following unit (and as added convenience for others):http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/I had to go back and recheck their specs, and a confirmed that your Airport unit features built-in firewall/router. Therefore it "pretty much" replicates all of the Motorola Arris SurfBand SBG678AC, EXCEPT that you will still need a separate standalone cable modem. This is their interface "point" from them to you.In other words, a "handoff" from either your cable (or DSL provider), out of their coaxial feed into the ISP's provider cable modem unit, then via an Ethernet cable from their WAN port to your Apple time capsule. Now allow me to explain further... given the very generic manner you posed your question. Many of the ISP cable companies will invariably drop you off just a cable modem, and that cable modem typically has 1-WAN, 4-Ethernet ports on them. That basic unit doesn't have all of the added features of a very fancy firewall. In order for the ISP's to protect you and them from communicating with your neighbors there is a basic built-in router and firewall to prevent such basic activity to protect them.Your unit will connect and sit behind their cable modem, and you should be good-to-go. Hope this helps, otherwise write back. I'll assume one or both units support MDI/MDIX, meaning if you connect the two together you won't have to concern yourself with the need for an Ethernet crossover cable. As an aside, for those still reading, if you're worried about your added security, take a gander on over to:https://www.grc.com/intro.htmThen click on "Shields Up". Then on that next screen scroll further down, and click on Shields Up again:Then click on "Proceed".Then click on "Universal Plug 'n Play (UPnP) Internet Exposure Test.Hopefully you should get "THE EQUIPMENT AT THE TARGET IP ADDRESSDID NOT RESPOND TO OUR UPnP PROBES". Do this right at your cable modem, to test how got that is.Then go back one page on that internet page. You may need to refresh if it says page not available, do panic. Then click on "All Service Ports" and see how that tests out for you. You should have all green boxes, as all Stealth.Next, repeat the above tests with your Airport unit connected. That'll give you solid feedback if the ISP's standalone cable-modem, and/or coupled with your Airport passes with flying colors. If it doesn't you may need to adjust some settings.Hope all this helps. see less
