A:The button on top is not actually a button in the sense you are thinking. It is a light used to check the signal between the mouse and the usb. You might be able to program it to double click but it would take some insane hacking skills.

A:sounds like the optic sensor and / or the optic projector are misaligned. taking the mouse apart is not easy as it has a lip / ridge locking system (no screws). for the price, would just order a new one.
