Q:I'm not sure I understand the benefit / speed difference between an AC router (or even N) and a "wired" Ethernet connection??
A:Also keep in mind that your speed is only as fast as your slowest link. While the wireless connection may be faster than 1Gbps, if your internet connection is 50Mbps, you are not going to notice a difference over 802.11N speeds. So in surfing the internet you won't see a benefit. However if you are transferring large files between machines in your home or a lot of files you would see transfer rates would be faster. While N devices can support 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies, with AC it is in 5GHz range. While I don't have any AC devices yet on my network, I do see better range on the devices that support 5GHz vs the ones that are only 2.4GHz on the N band. Also keep in mind how AC gets these speeds, they use a much larger frequency range to transmit the signal. The bad part of this is if you live in a high population density area (think apartment/condo/townhome) you may get lots of bleed over and interference. The AC signal will travel a lot further so you will be fighting with your neighbors more. I happen to live on several acres in more of a rural environment so this isn't an issue for me. I like cranking up the power because I get much better coverage. see less

Q:This thing looks dangerous! Can I use it as a weapon?
A:The Phaser aspect didn't pass safety standards. the Stun mode and Kill mode would switch randomly. Several dolphins and dogs lost their lives during testing. It was finally decided to disable that feature until further testing would prove successful.

Q:difference between the 68u and the 68r?
A:I had this exact same question and called ASUS. They said the product themselves are exactly the same on the inside. The "U" stands for universal (e.g. can be sold by Amazon). While the "R" stands for re-seller. (e.g. meaning it can be sold though stores like Best Buy)

ROUTER and MODEM. internal router connecting to the external world through a modem. There is a separate (or two in this case for purposes of redundancy of service) port on the back that connects the router to the modem. The other ports are for LAN and peripherals. Hope this helps... I still highly recommend further research to be done on your part to more fully understand the topography and functionality of small business/home networks so to be best prepared to allow full functionality, security, and to keep from spending money on what may be the wrong product for the purpose. Q:Is it possible to set the router to work only in the 2.5Ghz mode ? and if so how do you do it I have products such as WEMO which do not support 5Ghz.

I told them simply send me a replacement working router, and they can have my credit card on file so that if they don't get the other router back from me, they can charge me the full price of router. They said they can't do that. And offered no solution, so the only solution then is to go out and buy another router (from a different company with better support). Each client is identified by name as well as the address being used. You can monitor all traffic, but cannot separate just the guest traffic alone from the other traffic, as far as I can see. Under the Traffic Monitor tab there is a large active chart that displays traffic in any of four different ways. You can choose to view Internet, Wired, Wireless 2.4G, or Wireless 5G. Of course if all my personal computers were set up to use 5G I could then set up a guest network so that it could only use 2.4G. Then all traffic being displayed on the Wireless 2.4G chart would reflect the guests usage. Of course this may not be practical. With this router you can set up 3 different 2.4G networks and 3 different 5G networks all at the same time. You can choose to password protect each individually or leave it open to all. You can also set a timer on each separately so that access to the particular guest network expires after a certain time. Once set up the way you want it, which is easy, you can activate or deactivate any or all of the guest networks with a click of a button. So you might choose to have several Guest Networks configured for various situations and then activate the appropriate one. Hope this helps. John P see less

Q:is this router good enough to play xbox live with 2 consoles, web browsing, youtube etc etc ?? at the same time? with any kind of lag?

Q:How many concurrent connections are possible on this router?
A:I don't know the maximum number because I have not reached it yet. However, I recently had a gathering at my home where a Mac, three tablets, two drop cams and 8 smart phones were connected on both 5 ghz band and a 2.4 ghz guest network all at the same time. And no one reported any slow connections.

Q:Just got the router and love the extra distance. It does not like my Linksys PAP2T VoIP ATA, even when I put it in the DMZ. Workarounds?

If you are having trouble with your VoIP traffic, you may want to disable the firewall. This may sound more dangerous than it actually is. Disabling the router firewall effectively means that you are directly connected to the internet rather than using the router. You may want to install a personal firewall on your computer. A:Probably so if you disengage the wireless capability on the modem. You will get much better coverage and performance with this router.

Q:What cpu's does this have? also, how much ram?

This unit has 512MB of DDR3 RAM and 128MB of flash memory. The unit's processor (1) is a Broadcom BCM4707 (1.4 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex). There are 3 Broadcom BCM4366 network processors (1 for 2.4 GHz and 2 for 5 GHz).

Q:Will this router support a class b subnet? The network does not have that many devices but the subnet cannot be changed anymore. Thanks.
A:Classed networking died ages ago. Are you trying to ask if the router can handle a 10.x private subnet with a network larger than a /24? If so, the answer is yes, you can change the subnet mask and IP for the LAN yourself.

Q:Height? What is the height of the router with the antenna's attached straight vertically. I want to use the same optimal location I currently use.
A:12 inches

Q:"5.8 GHz Radio Frequency" - this is true

A:This does not have any holes for mounting.

Q:If a power failure do you have to push the off/on or, it restarst by itself?
A:I have pulled the power cord, and it powers back when I reinsert the plug. An actual power failure may not come back as cleanly, and I have not idea what a "brown out" or the surge sometimes associated with power returning may do.

Q:Why do the antennas flop around and keep moving? Should I use a dab of silicone to hold'em in place?
A:I simply screw each antennae in by turning the widest part of the antenna until it turns without tightening anymore. A:As long as you have the correct adapter for the electricity, it'll work just fine. You may need to change the broadcast channel since I'm not sure what is allowed in europe.

Q:Does this model have removable antenna?
A:Yes standard sma connector

Q:What is the difference between this and the rt-ac68u and is this worth the extra 100$?
A:Biggest difference is that it has 8 Gigabit Ports plus USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports. It also has improved coverage up to 5400 sg ft. There are other improvements, but I got it mainly for the 8 Gigabit ports as it saves using a switch as most other WiFi Routers only have 4 ports.
