    Q:Is this a spaceship?
    A:Netgear phone home?

Q:When all 3 bands are active, do you see 3 different wifi connections? Meaning 1 2.4 and 2 5 Ghz? Or are the 2 5 Ghz both under 1 name?
A:With Smart Connect turned on you will see 2 SSIDs, one for the 2.4 and one for the 5GHz. (The router then uses Smart Connect to connect each device to the best 5GHz channel, depending on the device and the current number of devices on each of the channels.)

Q:What WiFi Adapter should I be using with this? I don't see a USB3 Tri-Band Adapter anywhere. Do I need it?
A:There is no such thing as a triband adapter. The router has 2 5Ghz radios and one 2.4Ghz radio. You want a dual band ac or n adapter (5Ghz and 2.4Ghz).The reason it is advertised as triband is because, it balances the load on the 5Ghz band between the two 5Ghz radios. If you have a mix of 5Ghz n and ac devices, the router will separate them on to different radios so the "n" devices don't slow down the "ac" devices, for all this to happen make sure "Smart Connect" is enabled. If smart connect is disabled you can still do the same thing manually. see less

Q:Does the adapter work on 220-230 voltage? or is 110V only?
A:The adapter works for both voltages. The back of the BIG AC Adapter says: Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 1.0A Output: 12V 3.5A. So, yes, it will work 220-230v. And if you are not in the USA, then get a plug adapter to convert the USA style electric plug into one that fits your country.

Setting up a guest network is optional, but if you do set one up, it is better to use password protection for it. Your instruction book instructs you to register your router at www.netgear.com . On page 5 of your instructions, it gives you a website for logging in to your router's account (routerlogin.com or routerlogin.net). In your instruction book, the default user id and password are provided for your first login. Once in your account (the NETGEAR Genie), it is best to change the default password. Your account screen is divided into categories both by list and by icon. One of the icons is called "Guest Access". Hitting Guest Access will bring you to the place in your account where you can 1) enable a guest network which will probably be called "NetGuest"; 2) select the level of encryption that you want for your guest network (normally the shorter of the two choices); and 3) set up a password to protect the use of the guest network (if you don't set a password then anyone within range can use it). Once you have done this then you can go into your admin icon and change your login password for your account. The guest network will show up when a device searches for a Wi-Fi network. It should show up as "NetGuest" and, if you added a password, the Wi-Fi choice will also show a closed padlock to show that you need a password to use that network. If you have a guest, you can give them that password, but you will have your separate password access to the main part of your network. The guest will not have access to that. The guest network will probably operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency while most of your devices will be operating on the 5.0 GHz frequency. It's pretty easy to set up as long as you get to the right place in your NETGEAR genie online account. Hope that helps. see less

Q:How do i optimize it for online gaming for PS4 & Xbox1? Only play call of duty and Madden
A:It supports dynamic QoS, which allows it to prioritize streams based on both the type of stream and the type of hardware, so it will recognize your gaming systems and automatically prioritize them over other streams.

Q:Can the Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band WiFi Router be set up in repeater mode to repeat the signal from another Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band WiFi Router?
A:You can set up the X6 in either AP mode or Bridge mode.

    A:Yes it does.

Q:How many devices can reliably connect to this router simultaneously? I need to create a network where upwards of 100 devices can be connected.

Q:I just purchased a NVIDIA Shield Tablet, and they recommend an (R7000) will this offer the same gaming speed compatibility?
A:Yes, I upgraded the R7000 to this router(R8000). Great router. Better gaming performance for me.

Q:Can this use your hot spot connection off your cell phone for the internet? As a business backup?
A:No, it can't take a wireless signal and rebroadcast it

Q:I currently have the nighthawk r7000. if i were to use the same ssid and passwords for my 2.4 and 5ghz networks, will all my devices re-connect?
A:Yes, they will. I've switched routers many times and have never had to reconnect my devices.

Q:how many wifi connected devices can it handle at same time
A:32 active clients per band, but the performance will depend on what each of the clients is doing (HD video streaming for example, will use more bandwidth than general Internet browsing).

Q:I have comcast. Looking to update router. Do i need to update wifi too? Need to improve range
A:This is a wireless router so it will improve your range and your wifi speed so with this you are doing both the router and wifi. Keep in mind it will only go as fast as you are paying for(ex. 50mbps).

Q:Does this come with a VPN Client. AKA DD-WRT comparable
A:Yes A Very Good Vpn Have mine setup and running.

Q:Does it matter what Internet company you have? I have Verizon hsi
A:I have Frontier fiber and I use this router in place of Frontiers modem. I had the technician use a CAT5 termination on my fiber drop. Just plugged into the Netgear, set up the router and I was up and running at symmetrical 100/100.

Q:Haven't bought a router for years. What is the difference between dual and tri band. And what is the AC product for netgear?
A:Dual band supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi devices, and tri-band uses two 5 GHz channels to handle more 5 GHz devices. 11ac is the latest WiFi standard and is faster than the previous N WiFi, and Netgear has a number of 11ac routers and adapters.

Q:My modem is on the second floor of my house, if I put this on the second floor can we still get good reception in the basement?
A:Yes you should, but it really depends on the construction of your home and how "WiFi unfriendly" it is. If you have standard wooden floors than it shouldn't be a problem, but if you have something like concrete (as an example), this is very bad for WiFi signals.

Q:What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen Nighthawk X6?

Q:Does this router have to be restarted regularly or is it set it and forget it?

Q:Will it improve performance in a house with lathe and plaster walls?
A:I installed this in a bar. With lathe and plaster walls that was built in 1877. I get a signal everywhere in the building upstairs and down. My phone automatically connects when I'm half a block away.

Q:Does it work with windows 10?
    A:Yes,

Q:Is the nighthawk x4s secure with wpa/wpa2 encryption & mac filtering, limiting access and guest network with guest password?
    A:Yes.

Q:Does this have a built in modem? if not are there any similarly powerful routers with built in modems?

A:I have updated the router's firmware by (1) loading the control panel - 192.168.1.1; (2) selecting Advanced configuration; (3) select WPS Wizard; (4) select Administration; (4) selecting Administration; (5) select Router Update; and then (6) Check for and Update and if there is an update available it can be applied whi… see more I have updated the router's firmware by (1) loading the control panel - 192.168.1.1; (2) selecting Advanced configuration; (3) select WPS Wizard; (4) select Administration; (4) selecting Administration; (5) select Router Update; and then (6) Check for and Update and if there is an update available it can be applied which can take some time. Back to your original question, nope an update cannot be automatically applied. Due to the amount of time (1-2 minutes) required I certainly would not want the router to automatically apply. What would be useful if the router could periodically check for an update and if one is available notify the administrator via email - that would be handy but I am not holding my breath! see less

Q:Is this gigabit wired? The description does not say.
    A:Yes.

Q:I have cable wifi and home phone service via time warner. I see it says not compatible with phone bundle? What would I need to be able to keep phone
A:I have the same services with TW. You just keep your cable modem. This handles your wifi only. If you have TW wifi I hear it isn't that good and that's from the TW techs.

Q:Does this have a cooling fan? Do the vents dissipate the heat well? Photo shows it is sitting FLAT on the surface - air ventilation problem?
A:All of the heat dissipation is passive, so there is no need for an active fan. Also the top of the unit has a mesh covering, so there is a lot of area to dissipate heat.

Q:Do I also need a modem with this?
A:Yes you do. This is only a router
