Q:This is the newer version of this drive...w/ a limited 5 yr warranty, What is the diff between it and the older version w/ a 10 yr limited warranty?
A:I'm assuming you're comparing the Samsung PRO 850 and this 850 EVO. The PRO version contains higher endurance MLC NAND instead of TLC NAND, this means it will (on average) live longer and perform faster than this TLC version. Of course if you want MLC you're going to have to pay for it (and the warranty), as the PRO is…

Of course if you want MLC you're going to have to pay for it (and the warranty), as the PRO is definitely more expensive than this version, and most people don't really need a PRO unless you write to your drive ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY.

SSDs used to only build in single layer (imagine a bunch of single-story houses stretching out over a large parcel of land). With 3D vertical internal storage - now imagine fewer houses in a smaller land parcel, built several stories tall. That is the best way I can think of to answer your question. The technology allows for more storage in a smaller, more efficient method.

Q:Why is it marketed and sold as a 500 GB SSD when it's actually only 460 GB?
A:Here is another link that explains it. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/271049-32-500gb-hard-drive-shows-space-compIts what this post indicates, plus formatting overhead from whichever OS you have installed.
Q:Is Macbook Pro early 2011 compatible with this SSD ?
A:Yes it's compatible. Be sure to use TRIM enabler or a similar program for better performance and just keep in mind that Apple has been blocking and limiting the use of non approved SSD's and other parts in their newest OS Yosemite.
Q:Is this drive 7mm or 9.5 mm high?
A:According to Samsung specs 6.8mm
Q:Does this come with any cables?

Also Samsung comes with migration software but do check you may need to get a "cable" to connect to the ssd, which does not come with the package, as per the "picture instructions" you connect the SSD to the lap top and use the included CD to migrate you current HD to the new SSD drive. Then you just remove the HD and insert the SSD. You will amazed ar the improved speed and as nothing is moving a HD crash is very remote. Avery cheap way to get a very fast "new laptop" at a fraction of the price. I have upgraded 3 laptops and one desktop and it will be years before i need to look at buying anew one. I know all good things will eventually come to an end but, by that time all the lap tops will make the new surfac pro laptop/table from Microsoft look like an "old piece of technology." Good luck, with cloud storage becoming the standard the 500 gig should be large enough. (Note if you purchase a case, about $10 to $16.00, you can use your old existing HD as an external clone of the new SSD. It works great as the external drive.

You can replace the stock hard drive with this SSD. All of these MacBook Pro models support a 2.5" hard drive or SSD that is up to 9.5 mm and use a SATA interface. Be aware, that only Apple-supplied drives have OS X TRIM support enabled. TRIM is not supported for non-proprietary drives third party drives. TRIM is effectively an interface for the Apple OS to help manage available space on your SSD allowing it to run faster and last longer. There are ways for enabling TRIM in Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion) for the non-proprietary SSDs. Recently, Apple has added OS X 10.10.4 support that allows users to enable TRIM functionality on third-party SSDs without resorting to unsanctioned workarounds or software.
